Coupons and shipping codes: how to check them before you plan around them
Promotions are real, and most disappointment around them comes from a mismatch between what a coupon covers and what people assume it covers. This page is about closing that gap.
The three kinds of promotion, and why the difference matters
| Type | What it usually covers | Where it fails | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shipping coupon | Part of the international shipping charge | ||
| en | zh | es | pt |
| Item discount code | A reduction on the item price at order time | ||
| en | zh | es | pt |
| Event bundle | Several coupons released together with different conditions | ||
| en | zh | es | pt |
The four conditions to check first
- Expiry date and time zone — an offer that ended yesterday evening is still visible today
- Minimum spend, and whether it counts the shipping charge or only the items
- Route restrictions — many shipping coupons apply to selected routes only
- One-per-order and no-stacking rules, which quietly cancel the second coupon you were counting on
Planning around a promotion
The efficient sequence is: confirm the coupon is live, confirm your intended route is eligible, build the item list to meet any threshold with items you actually wanted, then submit inside the validity window. Doing it in the other order — buying first and looking for a coupon after — is how people end up with items they did not need.
Be particularly careful with time-limited shipping coupons when your parcel depends on a slow seller. If the item will not reach the warehouse before the coupon expires, the coupon was never going to apply.
What to do when a code does not apply
- Check the order against each condition in turn, rather than guessing
- Contact support with the coupon name, the order number and the screenshot
- Ask which condition was not met — the answer is usually specific, and it tells you what to fix next time
