A twelve-point QC checklist you can run in five minutes

This is the short version: twelve questions, in order, that catch almost every problem that is still fixable. If you only remember one thing, remember that the check happens before the parcel is submitted.

Identity and variant (1–4)

  1. Is the colourway in the photos the one on my order line?
  2. Is the model or silhouette correct, not just the brand?
  3. Does any visible size tag match the variant I chose?
  4. Are the markings inside the item consistent with the listing?
Warehouse lighting shifts colour. If the shade looks off but everything else matches, ask for one photo in daylight before escalating.

Size and measurement (5–7)

These three are the highest-value requests on the whole list, because they are the only ones that beat brand variance. A letter size means nothing across markets; a centimetre means the same thing everywhere.

  1. For footwear: is the insole measured, in centimetres, with a ruler visible?
  2. For garments: are chest width and body length confirmed flat?
  3. For rings and bracelets: is the inner diameter given in millimetres?

Quantity and condition (8–11)

  1. Are all units present, and are the pairs genuinely matching pairs?
  2. Are there marks, creases, glue residue or scuffs that the listing did not disclose?
  3. For anything mechanical — a clasp, a zip, a crown — is there evidence it operates?
  4. Is the packaging adequate for an international journey, or does it need reinforcement?

Completeness (12)

  1. Are the extras present that the listing actually promised: box, dust bag, spare links, tags? Do not expect accessories the listing never offered.
Warehouse photos confirm state and identity. They are not an authenticity service and they do not test function over time.

The message template

Send the request as a numbered list, name the angle, the thing you are checking and why. Template: “1) the size tag inside the shoe, photographed flat; 2) the insole measured with a ruler in centimetres; 3) the left shoe from the heel, for the midsole line; 4) the closure open and closed.”

Vague requests get vague photos, and a second round costs days you may not have before the storage window closes.

Never submit a parcel containing an item you intend to dispute. After international dispatch, a return normally costs more than the item itself.

Frequently asked questions

How long should the check take?
About five minutes for a normal order, longer if you need to request extra photos. Most of the value comes from doing the same twelve checks in the same order every time.
Do I need every measurement on every order?
No. Take identity and quantity always; take measurements on anything where fit decides whether you keep it — footwear, clothing, rings.
What counts as a real discrepancy?
Wrong variant, wrong size, missing pieces, or damage that affects use. Minor marks the listing did not promise against are usually not worth the return cost.
Can I ask for video instead of photos?
Often yes, and it is worth asking for anything mechanical: a clasp, a zip, a moving part. A short clip catches things a static frame hides.
